Taswegians bedevil Mariners - Jon Price

John Price writes about the Tasmanian -v- Central Coast Mariners  via his website www.stattoz.com.au

Central Coast Mariners defeated Tasmania 3-0, but couldn’t score until the 76th minute. The goals were scored by Matt Simon, Oliver Bozanic and Adam Kwasnik.

The match was played at KGV park, the Football Federation Tasmania headquarters, on Tuesday 27 July 2010  on a warmer than average July evening  in front of 3000 spectators.

The reason I’ve estimated 3000 is because of the number of fans who found their way into the venue without paying.

Pertinently, as a Tasmanian, I knew the Mariners far better from seeing them play on TV, than the Tasmanian players.

It was an interesting match. The Mariners lined up as a 4-4-2 with a midfield diamond. Tasmania started the first half with a 4-3-3, but they struggled to hold their shape in the first half. This made it difficult to decipher their shape. After the half time interval, Tasmania went to a 4-2-3-1, which at times looked like a 4-5-1.
