Rivals and Memories – A look at the Competition

South has a proud history that sits along side many other great football clubs of Tasmania. One of recurring themes as the history of the club has been great memories and recollections of other teams and players over the past hundred years. Life long friendship based on respect, fierce battle on the pitch and good humour at the final whistle are remembered fondly by the oldest members as well as the players of today.

In the early years of play the look of the league was very different with only 3 or other 4 teams in the total premier league. Every player would have been known by name family and occupation. To be declared the champions would no doubt have been a great achievement at the time, but a very different proposition faced by the clubs of today.

Names such as the Corinthians, Westralia and Cadburys no longer appear but many of the early teams were the foundations for many of the clubs well know today, with the second oldest club being Metro.

Historically South has had plenty of wins and loses with our worst defeat at the hands of New Town Eagles 11-1 and our best win against Kingborough United 11-0.

Below are the links to the other clubs of Tasmania football. We invite all clubs to join in our planned events throughout the year with the highlights of 100 year game day on 23^rd May at 2.00pm Darcy Street. Included in the day will be a 100m Gift.

A cocktail function at Government house is planned as is a 100 year dinner celebration. Details will be forwarded to all clubs shortly.
